From Nigeria to Boston
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9VNkCazT_T4&feature=youtu.be
When you first meet Oluwagbeminiyi Osidipe, you encounter a very vibrant, friendly, and unique personality. Oluwagbeminiyi or Niyi – as she shortened her name for simplicity – was named by her mother, who had a “very personal experience” when she had her, Niyi explained. Niyi is a Yoruba Nigerian transplant who arrived in the U.S. in 2006. As one of the most densely populated (West) African countries, Nigeria derives its name from the river that spans its land. To the South, it borders the Gulf of Guinea to the Atlantic Ocean. Originally colonized by the British, Nigeria gained independence in 1960. Its main ethnic groups are the Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba, who speak English and their own respective languages, while major religions include Islam, Christianity and indigenous beliefs. Niyi shares her story, her views on politics, cultural differences she’s embraced with humor, and what we can learn from each other by expressing curiosity. Her message is simple: travel enriches us through its exposure to new cultures, and enables us to grow.

Mark Twain on Travel
“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one’s lifetime.” (American author Mark Twain, Innocents Abroad).
Have you had the opportunity to travel (extensively, within your country, or even once abroad)? Can you relate to Twain’s sentiments? How does travel enrich us?

Pleasing The Taste Palate
Food has the wonderful quality of uniting us no matter where we are. There is nothing partisan or narrow-minded about food. It simply invites us to indulge, create recipes, and share with others. Two of my favorite Polish dishes (included in collage) are pierogies and barszcz czerwony – a beetroot soup – served on Christmas Eve in Poland. How does food bring us together? What are some of your favorite dishes and why? Can food trigger memories?

To some people, this might be a trip to a really good pizza or pasta and indulge in some self pampering. For others, it could be a trip to the cinema with seasoned popcorn to munch on while watching the Blockbuster that is on. Then, there are those who want to escape their location and go to exotic places in and around the country to quench their thirst for difference and to satiate their wanderlust. This new place in question, could be some place far away from our residence which makes the travel pleasantly long and enjoyable, or be a pace hidden right under our noses and be waiting to be explored.

For any adventure spot to become famous, it is necessary that someone finds it first. For until that time, it is a “Schrodinger’s adventure” spot, so to speak. It could be, and could not be, an adventure spot at the same time until someone goes and determines what the space can be used for.
I’m excited to tell you about such spots or destinations in Mumbai that are not particularly famous.
Mumbai, the capital of the state of Maharashtra, is one of the metropolitan cities in India. Like any other Indian city, the mix of people of different ethnicities is staggering in the city.
Even with high population demographics, there are a number of spaces available for recreation and adventure (against the wishes of a number of humanitarian groups that’d rather have the spaces come under the jurisdiction of HUDCO), some of which are listed below.
1 – Jogger’s Park
Jogging is one activity that any Tom, Dick or Harry can take up, starting slow, and gradually building up on the intensity and time for which the activity is carried out. Although many people might think that the environment where you jog is of secondary importance compared to the song playing on your earphones, the environment where you jog also has a profound impact on your mental health. Seeing greens and blues as you jog leaves you fresh, both physically and mentally.
One such place in Mumbai where you can jog, looking at abundant splashes of green and blue, is the Jogger’s Park in Bandra. A seaside jogging track that is 400 meters long, it is just the right amount of distance for beginners, with veterans jogging rounds together at a stretch. If you’ve been wanting to stretch your muscles and get on your knees for a while now, but haven’t gotten around to it, drive to Bandra and start; God knows you won’t get enough of the adrenaline and freshness that the activity has to offer.

2 – Mastermind Bicycle Studio In Mulund
This is a one-of-a-kind elite bicycle part deliverer in India that delivers top branded bicycling goods to your doorstep. Starting out as a humble initiative, the studio is one that endeavors to give the best possible experience to cyclists through the usage of the best cycling gear out there.
It is a place worth visiting and seeing, for it just might be the thing that might make you a dedicated cyclist for the rest of your life.

3 – 43-Foot Bouldering Wall In Goregaon
Built in memory of Arun Samant, a famous mountaineer who has scaled many a peak in the Sahyadris and the Himalayas, by his family in 2003, the wall is one that is visited by the young and old alike to try rock climbing.
Around the height of a G+3 building, the wall stands upright, proudly to this day, and is the go to place in Mumbai for mountaineering enthusiasts. However, as much as it is important to have fun, it is even more important to keep our physical health as a priority while attempting this activity. Thus, before you go climb the wall, do stretch and jog for at least a week so as to loosen your muscles, thus preventing any pain and the danger of tearing them when you stretch your feet at awkward angles to scale the wall.

4 – Water sports at H2O, Charni Road
Aparat from all the terrestrial (for the lack of a better word) adventure activities, Mumbai’s Charni Road has another set of experiences to offer to you, and these are the water sports at H2O. With a number of activities including kayaking, boating and jet skiing, the place offers a myriad of activities to choose from, and remains one of the most sought out destinations among those who know of the place.

As mentioned above, these are just some of the places that are beautiful yet not very famous in the city of Mumbai. There are so many other places apart from the ones mentioned in this article that could make our jaws drop and adrenaline rush. If you know of other such places, do remember that the door to spread the word is always open.
